The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra's In-School Ensembles are a great way to enhance students' learning experience. These programs provide students with the opportunity to observe and interact with professional musicians in a school setting. The programs are fun, full of information, and cover a variety of topics within various disciplines. Through careful and creative planning, each Ensemble program supports material required in all subject areas as outlined by the Virginia Standards of Learning.

"KLASSIKAL KANDINSKY KAPERS FOR KIDS"

Who's afraid of classical music? Not the Kandinsky Trio The internationally-touring trio for piano, violin, and cello has been delighting audiences -- young and old -- with their informal and humorous interaction for more than 20 years. Students will experience programs geared specifically to each request. The Trio performs and leads lively discussions of classical and folk music from the United States and around the world.

"RHYTHM AROUND THE WORLD"

Experience music from such countries as Kenya, Japan, Spain and Argentina and learn about rhythmic elements that make each nation's music special and unique. This program also includes music by composers Johann Strauss Jr., Sir Edward Elgar, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and John Williams. Passports are not required for this international journey, but active imaginations are encouraged!

"MUSICAL CAMERA SAFARI"

A 45-minute interactive concert based upon the beloved classic orchestral work Carnival of the Animals by French master-composer Saint-Saens. Participants are encouraged to guess the identity of mystery animals by listening to their musical portraits. Is this a big animal or a small animal? How does the animal move? What sounds does the animal make? Thinking caps are needed for this musical safari!
