Roanoke Youth Symphony Orchestra
The RYSO is the only professional orchestral training program for young people in Southwest Virginia. These young musicians gain membership through auditions held annually each spring and fall.
Roanoke Youth String Ensemble
The Roanoke Youth String Ensemble is composed of beginning-to-intermediate string players, ages 8-14, who rehearse weekly and perform concerts in public venues throughout the city of Roanoke during the year.
After-School String Programs
The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra is proud to partner with Roanoke County Public Schools and Salem City Public Schools to offer after-school group violin classes for beginning string players.
Allegro! String Camp
Allegro! String Camp is a program presented by the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra for string students ages 8-18 in the Roanoke Valley.
Summer Music Institute
During mid-June, the week-long Summer Music Institute (SMI) offers daily group instruction, masterclasses, and rehearsals for both a full orchestra and two string orchestras, in addition to intensive programs for piano and saxophone.

Wellness Arts
Wellness Arts is the RSO’s innovative program serving elderly adults suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. We know that music is a particularly powerful tool to connect with those suffering from memory-related diseases and we wanted to help.
